About

ALDO SAMPIERI

New York

Aldo Sampieri was educated in fine arts at Brazil’s prestigious Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo, at the Ecole supérieure d’arts visuels de Genève in Switzerland, and in the United Kingdom at Saint Martin’s School of Art, London.

An award-winning graphic designer, art director, and artist, his work has been exhibited internationally, including notably at Highgate Gallery in the historic Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution building on 11 South Grove in London, and is held in private collections worldwide.

In Brazil, he began his career in graphic design in São Paulo working directly with printers, composing printer plates and developing designs for silk-screening, gaining an intimate knowledge of the craft and technologies of printing while developing a bold and confident aesthetic. Collaborations that followed include work with magazines, such as Ms. (Brazil), with music producers, such as Island Records, Blue Note Records, and Warner Bros., and with book publishers, including Papadakis Publisher, Rizzoli International Publications, Universe Publishing, and others.

During his thirty-year career, Sampieri has received numerous awards and honors, including several IPPY awards, citation for Best Book Design from Publisher’s Weekly, and recognition, in 1997, for his design of the album cover and CD packaging for Paquito D’Rivera’s Grammy Award–winning Portraits of Cuba.

Sampieri’s design ethos is informed by a deep passion for the arts, a sensitivity to materials, pattern, and form, and the ongoing search for powerful and articulate expression.
